Cleansing & Exfoliating Tips

Retrouvé’s trio of skincare essentials helps to cleanse and exfoliate skin gently, yet effectively without the use of potentially abrasive physical scrubbing ingredients that can also potentially pull at or cause micro-tears on the skin unnecessarily and cause damage over time. Moreover, the products optimally prepare the skin for absorption of the potent ingredients in our nourishing moisturizers.

LUMINOUS CLEANSING ELIXIR

Extensive care went into developing Luminous Cleansing Elixir’s unique texture to brand founder Jami Heidegger’s exacting standards: Jami desired a rich, easily-spreadable, effective moisturizing cleanser that could be removed easily from the skin to avoid unnecessary pressure or pulling to the delicate facial area. The result? An elegant, water-free cleansing balm enriched with high quantities of avocado oil and glycerin that is ideal to massage onto the skin for an ultimate gentle cleansing experience to moisturize the skin while gently removing dirt, debris, and residue from its surface.

Luminous Cleansing Elixir is not a traditional soap formulation; soaps generally contain strong surfactants as well as unnecessary binders, fragrance, and artificial coloration – all of which can be potentially drying and irritating to the sensitive and fragile facial skin. After much research in the lab and testing on our own skin, we chose to utilize Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, which is clinically proven to cleanse skin without stripping. SKIN BRILLIANCE PRIMING PADS

Our Skin Brilliance Priming Pads are imbued with a scientifically-balanced, vegan-friendly solution that features a highly efficacious level of naturally-occurring botanical alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) via bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange, and lemon extracts to hasten the exfoliation of dead tissue as panthenol provides a soothing effect. The pads are saturated with solution so that they glide easily in order to avoid any unnecessary pulling of the skin.

Our plush pads contain an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards. (For more information on sun protection, click here.)

In general, we recommend using our Skin Brilliance Priming Pads as part of the nighttime skincare routine, up to two times per week.

CONDITIONING TONIC WITH CHAMOMILE

We are often asked if our Conditioning Tonic with Chamomile is a toner. Traditional toners are generally an astringent that removes oil from the skin and can therefore be drying, whereas our Conditioning Tonic is about adding to the skin – it delivers a soft, soothed feeling as it brightens and tackles dullness, uneven texture, and dryness. Lightly exfoliating and clarifying, our chamomile-infused face tonic conditions as it hydrates and softens, providing an effective foundation for the celebrated Retrouvé radiance.

Our skin-enhancing formulation features German Chamomile – the celebrated antioxidant and polyphenol powerhouse – and Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, which is heralded for its hydrating properties. Sodium Lactate allows for a natural exfoliating effect while Allantoin and Pro-Vitamin B5 Panthenol help to provide a soothed feel to the skin. Conditioning Tonic with Chamomile is recommended for most skin types and may be used after cleansing for a reinvigorated and refreshed skin appearance.
