The Importance of Skincare at an Early Age: Retrouvé's Top Anti-Aging Products

As a global trainer for Retrouvé, I am often asked about my own skincare experience as well as who can benefit from anti-aging products and the age that one should begin an anti-aging skincare regime in earnest. My answer is simple: Anyone, at any age, who wishes to attain an optimal skin condition! Many only begin to place an emphasis on skincare as they get older and start seeing the effects of aging, but it is equally as important, if not moreso, for people in their twenties to focus on their skin, too!

My mother, Jami Morse Heidegger, has endeavored to instill in me a sense of urgency about taking preventive action to stave off the aging of my skin for as long as I can remember. I wish that I had believed my mom the first time she explained this to me; but, as a daughter, it was my natural instinct not to listen – despite the fact that my mother was and is considered a visionary in the skincare industry!

The Importance of Skincare While You're Young

Growing up, I rebelled against my mother’s skincare knowledge. As a preemie who spent weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, I was born with hormonal imbalances that caused me to suffer from extremely early-onset cystic acne. Beginning in the third grade, I was made fun of at school for the red bumps all over my face at a time when others my age still had clear skin. Although my mother tried everything she could to help me see my true beauty and to treat my cystic acne, I didn’t listen, since her opinion was different from everything I read online. To resolve my acne, the internet and many famous dermatologists instructed me to dry my skin out as much as possible to reduce my skin’s oil production. My mother, instead, advised just the opposite – she told me that I should keep my skin moisturized, hydrated, and balanced so that my skin did not produce more oil to compensate for all of the drying I was doing, which would in turn cause even more acne. Needless to say, my mother’s approach clashed with what I read online, and I was determined to believe in the advice of these other seemingly credible sources. I therefore purchased all of the “acne products” I could find. My acne did not clear up, and my skin became even more red, dry, itchy, and flaky. No makeup in the world could cover up my skin, and I became convinced that all skincare didn’t work and was a complete waste of time – a disconcerting revelation for a daughter whose mother devoted her professional life to skincare and educating others on its helpful benefits!

What I didn’t realize was that it wasn’t that skincare didn’t work, it was that I hadn’t found the right products and professional treatment plan for myself. After years of suffering with my skin and feeling ugly because I did not have the flawless, touched-up skin I saw in magazine images, I finally heeded my mom’s advice: I stopped drying my skin out and instead started using Retrouvé’s anti-aging products. My skin, which had been destroyed from the years of acne products I had used, began to revive.

Enriched with lush, hydrating avocado oil from my family’s permaculture ranch in Malibu, Luminous Cleansing Elixir utilizes Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, which is clinically-proven to cleanse skin without stripping, and PEG 7 Glyceryl Cocoate to loosen debris and light makeup. It is such a relief now to cleanse my skin and have it feel healthy and balanced rather than uncomfortable, rough, and dry!

Nutrient Face Serum

After cleansing, I always apply Nutrient Face Serum, which is excellent for those with normal to oilier skin who desire our very effective blend of skin-improving ingredients without too much extra moisturization. Because Nutrient Face Serum contains a high amount of oil-based Vitamin C, my complexion appears brighter than it has ever looked. (We use oil-based Vitamin C, which has a higher rate of penetration than ascorbic Vitamin C, as it is lipid-soluble like human skin. It is also thought to be gentler for those who experience sensitivities to ascorbic acid.)

The Results

After using Retrouvé’s anti-aging skincare regularly, my skin not only became brighter and more even-toned, but my acne scars diminished, my skin began to heal quicker, and, I finally started to understand the obsession that my mother, and many others, had with skincare! Although not the “typical” consumer of anti-aging products, as a twenty-two year old person, Retrouvé’s products have helped my skin to function in a healthier manner, reducing my acne and improving my overall skin condition. Anti-aging products are not just for your mother, grandmother, father, or grandfather.
